Hazelhof will be unavailable for several months from mid-August 2024 due to planned renovations. The schedule for this is not yet known; we will release the rental periods as soon as we have more information.
The detached 2-person holiday home Hazelhof lies at the foot of the picturesque village of Vijlen. Here you can completely switch off from your busy everyday life. Imagine yourself in a new world where you can enjoy the pleasant tranquillity, beautiful scenery, farm life and friendly people who are always in for a chat.
Hazelhof - then and now
The Hazelhof is a monumental half-timbered barn that was built in 1730. For generations, the farmers who lived on the nearby farm, used this barn for hay storage. With the hay wagon they drove huge bales of hay into the barn. The part where they actually stored the hay, the hayloft, is now a lovely place to sleep. After all, the old half-timbered barn has been completely renovated and converted into a luxury holiday home. The holiday home is named after the hazel mouse, an animal that symbolises the beautiful nature of South Limburg. The hazel mouse is a cute little animal that in the Netherlands can only be found in the grasslands and hedgerows around the Vijlenerbos.
Let’s take a look inside
As we do in Limburg, you enter the house through the back door. After entering, you will find yourself in the entrance hall which gives access to the large living area. The living area is equipped with all modern facilities such as wifi, interactive TV and a Bose sound system that can be linked to your smartphone. In the left part of the room, you will find a cosy sitting area with a large corner sofa, leather armchair, see-through fireplace and patio doors to the terrace. Grab a blanket and a hot chocolate and read a good book or watch an exciting movie. The long dining table in the middle of the room is perfect for a Burgundian dinner or a cosy game night. On the other side of the living area is the modern, open kitchen which is equipped with all conveniences for extensive cooking. On the ground floor there is also a bathroom (with toilet, bidet, walk-in shower and washbasin) and a utility room with a washing machine. On the mezzanine floor a spacious double bedroom can be found.
Outdoor area
At the rear of the Hazelhof (southwest) are two lovely terraces overlooking the orchard, fields and the Vijlenerbos forest. The terraces are surrounded by a park-like garden with a lawn, various types of trees and flowering shrubs. The Hazelhof is located in the middle of a large high stemmed orchard where you can usually find sheep. Feel free to pick a piece of fruit from one of the apple, pear, plum, nut and cherry trees.
It is of course tempting to laze away the day in the garden but exploring the Heuvelland region is also highly recommended. It does not matter which way you go; it is beautiful everywhere. When you come home at the end of the day from a long walk or bike ride, you may not feel like cooking anymore. Fortunately, you are within a ten-minute walk from several good restaurants, namely Vijlerhof, Uit de Kunst, A gen Kirk and Cuba Libre. The famous Boscafé 't Hijgend Hert, a restaurant in the Vijlenerbos, is also just a fifteen-minute walk away.
Please note
Because of the height differences in and around the house, this holiday home is not suitable for people who have difficulty walking.
