For a special experience in an authentic half-timbered farmhouse, 't Höfke is the place to be. This eight-person holiday home is located in the hamlet 't Höfke, on the outskirts of the charming village of Mechelen. In this quiet and nature-rich place, you can completely unwind while also being within a few minutes' walk from several restaurants and cafés.
Then and now
't Höfke is a detached, U-shaped building that — according to the inscription in a window frame — dates back to 1783. For a long time, this building was a farm. Forty years ago, this farm was bought by Vereniging Natuurmonumenten (Society for the Preservation of Nature in the Netherlands). This conservation organization has completely restored the left wing of the farmhouse and turned it into a holiday home.
Let’s take a look inside
At the front of the building is a cosy living room where everyone can sit together around the wood-burning stove. There is also a second seating area with a wooden bench and cushions, for when someone wants to have a bit of time to themselves with a good book for example. At the back of the building, where the cowsheds used to be, you will now find the kitchen. This kitchen is equipped with all conveniences, including a 6-burner gas hob, large oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, Senseo coffee machine and kettle. Extending from the kitchen is the dining room. In the past, this space was used to store milk and to clean milk churns. Now there is a sturdy wooden dining table which is ideal for dinners with family or friends. On the ground floor there is also a separate toilet. On the upper floor there are four double bedrooms and a modern bathroom with shower, double washbasin and toilet.
Outdoor space
The outdoor space is just as enticing as inside! You can enjoy the courtyard, covered terrace and a garden that offers views of the beautiful Geuldal valley and the nearby Vijlenerbos forest. The old bakehouse in the back garden is also worth a look. Because of the natural environment, you may be awakened in the morning by the rural sound of a rooster.
