Prachtvink is situated in Mechelen, one of the most charming villages in South Limburg. In 2018, this former stable was transformed into a modern 28-person holiday home. Thanks to its large garden with play area, as well as its fire pit, this holiday home is a popular choice for groups with children.
Vinken family estate
Holiday home Prachtvink is tucked away at the end of a private track, on the impressive 30-hectare estate belonging to the Vinken family. This estate includes not just the holiday home, but also meadows with blonde suckler cows and horses, a small campsite, a riding arena and a small nature reserve where you can enjoy wonderful walks. On the part of the estate that’s closest to the street you will also find the owners’ family home, a half-timbered farm and two clay-coloured holiday homes called Goudvink and Boekvink. All the elements come together to form a wonderful estate.
Let’s take a look inside
You enter the holiday home in the large, open living area. Here you will find an attractive sitting area with a large flatscreen television, a well-equipped, open kitchen and an eight-metre-long dining table. In addition, there is a smaller table where, for example, board games can be played. The spacious kitchen is equipped with all conveniences to prepare and serve dinner for 28 people. Prachtvink has twelve bedrooms and fourteen bathrooms. The first bedroom is a wheelchair accessible double bedroom located on the ground floor. This bedroom has a private bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet. On the ground floor there are also three bathrooms with shower, washbasin and toilet, as well as a separate toilet. If you go to the upper floor, you’ll see the old metal trusses that reveal the original roof height of the stables. On this floor there are eight double bedrooms, two triple bedrooms and one quad room. All but one of these bedrooms have their own shower and washbasin.
Outdoor space
Guests of this holiday home can make use of the large garden with fire pit and covered terrace. The terrace offers beautiful views over the meadows, woodland and horses. Prachtvink is also a real paradise for children. They have plenty of space to run around and can use the various play area facilities such as the trampoline. They also get the chance to discover what life is like on a farm.
The area
Prachtvink has a unique location in the heart of the Geuldal valley. Just a short walk down the private road and you’ll find yourself in the middle of a beautiful nature reserve where you’ll hear nothing but the babbling of the river Geul and birdsong. The nearby Bovenste Bos is also a special woodland area to go walking in. If you’re lucky, you may run into a badger, fox or deer. Just a five-minute walk from the holiday home is the centre of Mechelen, a charming little village known for its half-timbered houses, picturesque streets and many terraces. The village has also a local supermarket, butcher, a baker offering delicious Limburg pies, and various bistros. Furthermore, you are just a few minutes’ drive from the Voer region or villages such as Slenaken, Epen, Vaals and Valkenburg, and you are only half an hour’s drive from Maastricht, Aachen and Liege.
