This centuries-old building with historic value is located at the end of a dead-end road in a designated quiet area between the villages of Mechelen and Epen. Here, you have a great view of the sloping “Geuldal’ landscape. Moreover, the area is ideal for walking and it only takes a few minutes to get to cafes and restaurants. Hoeve Hurpesch is all about enjoying the Burgundian lifestyle!
Hoeve Hurpesch is normally suitable for groups up to 26 persons, but we now also offer the XS option. This implies that smaller groups (of up to 12 people) get the opportunity to stay in this holiday home at an adjusted rate. This option includes the use of all living areas, the outdoor area, 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
Then and now
In the 14th century, a castle and a moat were located on the site of this holiday home. The stream that flows past the holiday home is a beautiful reminder of this. By 2017, little was left of the castle. Nevertheless, Cecile and Bart decided to buy this national monument and give it a new lease of life. With the help of family and friends, they managed to restore the old half-timbered barns and transform them into an atmospheric holiday home. Authentic details have been kept where possible and all rooms have been given a unique style and atmosphere.
Let's take a look inside
The heart of the home is the big rural living kitchen that is really equipped with all conveniences. It has a jet-black 'La Canche' cooker with gas burners, a wok burner, a plancha and no less than three ovens. Also available is an ice cream maker, cooking torch (for crème brûlée), the best graters, windmill knives, mixing bowls and cutting boards. Furthermore, there is a filter coffee machine, Nespresso machine, espresso machine with fresh beans and a milk frother. In addition, you can use the pizza oven and the large barbecue on the terrace, and there is a herb garden! In short, this is the place to be for cooking enthusiasts. Prepare a delicious meal together and have dinner at the wooden dining table. In addition to the cooking studio, the ground floor accommodates a cosy living room with wood-burning stove and flatscreen television, two multifunctional (meeting) rooms, a separate toilet and two double bedrooms with private bathroom, one of which is wheelchair accessible. The other four bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the first floor.
Outdoor space
This holiday home offers a large garden that invites you to relax, walk around and pick some fresh fruit. While sunbathing on the terrace built from old ship's timbers, you look out over the Vijlenerbos forest and the hamlet of Bommerig. In front of the accommodation there is a lovely fruit orchard that is sometimes occupied by the sheep of farmer Hupperetz. Another nice extra is that during your stay you can enjoy a unique Finnish sauna. (This sauna will be shared with guests of holiday home 't Bakhuisje.) For children there is a trampoline and a playground with a slide and swings.
Workshops and catering
The owners Cecile and Bart, who themselves live in the east wing of the farmhouse, offer various workshops and catering options to make your stay even more special. You can, for example, book a sheep herding workshop or a cooking workshop. Bart also offers business training and team-building activities and can act as a facilitator. Furthermore, Bart and Cecile arrange breakfasts, dinners and pizza evenings. Meals are always prepared with fresh, local products like cheeses and eggs from the farm in Reijmerstok and delicious meat from the pig farm in Mechelen. All meals are self-prepared because Bart and Cecile really know how to cook. In 2011, they had a small "living room restaurant" that was awarded one of the best five restaurants in Leiden (IENS Topper 2011).
Please note
As this holiday home is located in a designated quiet area, it is not suitable for student parties, bachelor parties or other noisy celebrations. Without consultation it is not allowed to play loud music or make a lot of noise here. Especially from 10 p.m. onwards, people are asked to respect the peace and quiet.
