The hip Villa Verde III holiday home for four is located in a tranquil spot surrounded by nature on the edge of Bunderbos, just seven kilometres from Maastricht. Whether you prefer to go by bike, car or train, you’ll find yourself right among the hustle and bustle of Limburg’s capital city in no time at all. The town of Meerssen and the classic tourist destination of Valkenburg are also close by.
Then and now
Michael and Danielle, who have two children, are the proud owners of Villa Verde. This holiday home is part of a historic building dating back to 1880. The building is located on a 4,000 m2 plot with apple and pear trees that was purchased by Danielle’s grandfather, who worked as a fruit grower. The fruit farm became the childhood home of Danielle’s parents, and later of Danielle herself. When the opportunity arose, she lovingly took on the house herself. Together with Michael, she transformed the former barn into stylish and sustainable holiday homes. Villa Verde II and Villa Verde III are both well-insulated, equipped with sustainable energy sources such as heat pump boilers, and equipped with air conditioning — and on top of that, they are both trendy inside too. Villa Verde is all about a slower pace of life, greenery, peace and quiet, the outdoor life, and spending time together.
Let’s take a look inside
Villa Verde III is situated at the head of the old barn. The home’s living space is located on the first floor, and consists of a seating corner, dining space, and open-plan kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could wish for, including a four-ring induction hob, fan oven, dishwasher, kettle, Jura espresso maker, and all the kitchen utensils you need to whip up a delicious lunch or dinner. On top of that, the owners sell a range of delicious regional products, including jam, fruit syrup, honey, apple juice, and fine bottles of wine — no surprise given the fact that Michael works for a wine importer — as well as a freezer full of breads, baguettes, croissants, and pains au chocolat from Bakkerij Hermans.
At the round dining table, you and your friends or family can enjoy a snack and a drink, spend quality time with one another, and bask in the tranquillity surrounding you, all with a stunning view over the rural landscape and Bunderbos. The lounge area also offers views over the green landscape. Considering the fact that Villa Verde’s main focus is outdoor living, a slower pace of life, and spending quality time with one another, the home does not have a television. If you would prefer to have a TV at the home during your stay, simply let the owners know in advance and they’ll take care of it for you.
The wooden staircase next to the seating corner will take you down to the ground floor, where you’ll find a quadruple bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. This family room offers access to the private patio, is stylishly designed down to the smallest detail, and is equipped with a double bed and bunk beds. Combined with the high-quality bed linen, the luxury boxspring beds guarantee a peaceful night’s sleep. The bedroom also doubles up as a bathroom, as it contains a sink, separate toilet, and freestanding bath.
Outdoor space
This holiday home has a delightful private patio that comes with much more than garden furniture. A wood-fired hot tub, Big Green Egg, fire basket, and wood-fired pizza oven are also available for shared use. Each of these can be made available for your enjoyment by request and for a small fee. Guests also have access to a shared play field, where you can play football, badminton or simply relax in a hammock. Cats and chickens roam the premises as a fun little extra. Fresh eggs or herbs and vegetables can be harvested from the garden, subject to availability!
The area
Villa Verde III is located in an area that offers stunning walking, cycling, and mountain biking trails, and the beautiful and hilly Bunderbos is just a stone’s throw away. There are plenty of flat routes available, but for a bit more of a challenge, we recommend the Mergelland route, the hilly woodland track, or one of the GPX routes. Bicycles can be rented by request, and can be securely stored at the home. In addition, facilities are available to charge electric bicycles (and electric cars, from the second half of 2022).
