The unique, 6-person holiday home Chez Miel is located in Aubel, a Belgian village with a rich history. The holiday home is part of Château La Driesch. Adjacent to a large garden park with ancient trees, located in the heart of a picturesque landscape, this former gentlemen’s farmstead is the perfect place to relax, enjoy nature, and recharge.
Then and now
Farmhouse La Driesch was built in the 18th century. In the second half of the 19th century, a donjon with heavy cast-iron balustrades was added and the property was labelled a chateau. Lillyjan and Bert instantly fell in love when they saw the chateau for the first time and are now its proud owners. They had the right wing renovated in 2011 and the middle part in 2016, so that the chateau could be converted into several holiday homes. Chez Miel is located in the right part of the chateau, where once cheese was made, grain was stored and chocolate was stored during the war. In the holiday home you can still find many authentic elements, such as the old wooden rafters, the vaulted stable ceiling in the hall and the cast-iron construction in the former granary.
Let's take a look inside
When you enter the hall, the first thing that probably catches your eye is the amazing, old water pump. The hall also gives access to a double bedroom with extendable bed, a refreshment room and a separate toilet. Take the stairs to the first floor to reach the living area, which offers a beautiful view on the estate. In the living area you will find a cosy sitting area with wood-burning stove and an open kitchen equipped with all conveniences including a 4-burner ceramic hob, convection oven, large refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and Senseo coffee machine. The wooden dining table is perfect for extensive dining. On the first floor you will also find a double bedroom (with a double bed and a cot) and a luxurious bathroom with walk-in shower, washbasin and toilet. And last but not least, there is a lovely double room on the large mezzanine.
Outdoor space
At Chez Miel, you have a lovely private terrace at your disposal located at the back of the house. You also have access to the beautiful garden park with a majestic oak tree, Lebanese pine, sweet chestnut tree, and walnut tree. The trees are illuminated in the evening and look absolutely enchanting. The garden is perfect for strolls, having a picnic, playing football, or just relaxing with a book. The children can enjoy the playhouse, football goal, and go-kart.
Château La Driesch feels like a second home, somewhere you could spend the whole year. The scent of blossom wafts through the air in spring, while summers are imbued with the smell of fresh hay. You can also pick nature’s fruits: currants in June, cherries and plums in July, pears and apples in September, and quinces in October. In autumn, there are still some sweet chestnuts and walnuts to be foraged before winter returns.
Outdoor pool
During the summer season (from May to September) all guests of Château La Driesch can enjoy the heated outdoor pool. This pool (which is 4 metres wide, 12 metres long and 1.5 metres deep) is open from Monday to Saturday between 10:00 and 16:30.
Larger group?
Groups of more than six are advised to book Chez Miel in combination with the holiday home next door Chez Mamy. These holiday homes together can accommodate twelve people and are rented out under the name Château La Driesch.
